Body Building In Old Age

Can you really start body building in old age?

The answer is yes! Everyday is a great day for you to get back in shape! A lot of people like to assume that only teenagers and young adults can have that perfect muscular physique, but this is actually not the case. No matter what your age may be – whether you are 40, 50, 60, or even 70 years old! – you can still bulk up, tone up, and start looking and feeling better than ever before. The key is determination. You have to decide that this is something you will not try to do, but actually do. You will become a slim, svelt, toned elderly woman or a fit, ripped old man.

These days, weight training over 40 and weight training over 50 is fast becoming a fad. This only shows that more and more people are getting health-conscious. If you are at your golden age and you want to start building your muscles, look at how the men and women of your age level are doing it. Learn from them and ask out for pointers and tips. If you find that their goal is the same as yours, you can use the same body building program that they employ.

For first-timers, start off with small weights. You can see that many young people start off with heavy weights even if they too are first time body builders. For them it is okay because their young bodies are capable of recovering from pulls, muscle bruises and strains at a rapid rate. Your body, especially at your age, needs ample time in order for it to fully recover in case of strains and pulls, that is why you need to start slow and with small weights. Think about it, you are not there to show off. With light weights you will be able to focus and concentrate more with what you are doing.

Another thing is that, if you have acquired any injuries in the past, you must always be careful not to re-injure yourself, so do everything that you can to protect the part of your body that got injured before. Confer with your doctor regarding this matter. He or she will give you an advice in terms of what specific exercise should you avoid and the like.

In fact, it is important to check with your physician before making any changes to your diet or exercise. In old age it is easy to overlook vascular weaknesses or other age-related conditions that could lead to serious consequences if not carefully accounted for. With that said, most will not find it that challenging to overcome any medical problems and become more fit and trim than they ever were when they were younger.
